| Traditionally, dried fruit is eaten
on Tu B'Shevat. Fruit leathers are sweet snacks made from dried fruit. Heres
how you (ask an adult for help) can make this great Tu B'Shevat treat: |
 |
| fresh ripe fruit (peaches, pears,
and apricots work especially well), fruit peeler, large pot, food processor,
cookie sheet, heavy plastic wrap, honey (optional) |
| |
 |
- Wash and peel the fruit.
- Blanch the fruit. (This is how you do it: Bring water to a boil.
Place the peeled fruit into the boiling water a little bit at a time
so that the water doesnt stop boiling. Cook it for 3 to 5 minutes,
then drain it well.)
- Puree the fruit. (That means chop it up into a thick paste in a food
processor.)
- Add honey if you like. Remember, drying the fruit concentrates the
flavor, so it will be extra sweet.
- Cover the cookie sheet with heavy plastic wrap and spread the thick
puree onto the sheet. Spread it no higher than 1/4 inch, or it will
take too long to dry.
- Place in 150° oven to dry. It can take anywhere from 6 to 10
hours for the fruit to dry. Youll know its ready when there
are no sticky spots. Enjoy!
