For the dough: Using a wooden spoon, cream the margarine or butter with the sugar
(ask a grownup if you dont know what that means). Add the egg
and continue creaming until smooth. Add the water or milk and vanilla.
Sift the flour and mix it with the margarine mixture until a ball of
dough is formed. Divide the dough into 2 cylinders: one about 3 inches
wide, and one about 11/2 inches wide. Cool in the refrigerator for a
few hours. Ask a grown up to preheat the oven to 350°. Cut the dough
from the wider cylinder into thin slices (about 1/8 inch thick). Flatten
them a little with a rolling pin. Write a silly fortune on each sheet
of paper. Fold the paper twice and place it in the middle of each circle
of dough. Cut the dough from the narrower cylinder into thin slices
(about 1/8 inch thick). Flatten them a little with a rolling pin. Place
one over each fortune. Gently press the edges of the smaller circles
of dough to blend them into the larger circles. When this is done, turn
each one over. Place one teaspoon of filling in the center of each round.
Draw the edges up at three points to form a triangle. Place the triangles
on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden
brown. Cool on rack. |
