box (about shoe box size) heavy duty aluminum foil
colored paper (wrapping paper is good) string of different lengths glue paper plate stickers or tape
  1. POUR glue onto paper plate. COAT STRING with glue by dipping. CREATE DESIGNS by sticking the coated string on the tops and sides of the shoe box. COVER the shoe box top with aluminum foil. RUB THE FOIL with your finger so that the raised designs you made with the string show up. Do the same with the bottom of the box.

  2. LINE the inside of the box with colored paper

  3. THINK about 5761. Find five items to put in your time capsule:

    • something that made you feel HAPPY
(for example, a flower from your recital boquet)

    • something that made you feel SAD
(for example, a photo of a friend who moved away)

    • something that made you feel PROUD
(for example, a spelling test with all the words spelled correctly)

    • something you LEARNED
(You can write about it, or draw a picture.)

    • a list of what you HOPE for the new year, 5762

  4. PUT all of these things INTO THE BOX. Close the lid and SEAL with stickers or tape. DO NOT OPEN until Tu BiShevat, about half way through the year. On the holiday of growing things, you'll be able to check and see how much you've grown, too!
