In Israel, special units of the paratroopers and scouts know how to find water when there doesn’t seem to be any nearby. Here’s what they do:

  1. Put a plastic bag over the leaves of a bush, ends sealed tightly.
  2. Leave it all day and all night.
  3. You’ll find water in the plastic bag in the morning!
How does it work?!?

Water evaporates from the leaves in a process called envirotranspiration. At night when the air cools, the water condenses on the plastic bag.
